Abraham: A Great Dad – Happy Fathers Day
Welcome to anoother great week and Happy Fathers’ Day to all our Fathers.
In Genesis 15 Abraham becomes the first person of faith in the Bible.
God counts Abraham’s faith as righteousness, and the standard is set for the rest of scripture.
Early in Genesis 12, God made His covenant with Abram that He would make of him a great nation. People that blessed him would be blessed. Then some time passed. Days became weeks, weeks became years. Years went by between Genesis chapter 12 and chapter 15, but when Abram suggested a hired hand will inherit his possessions, God reassured him that this was not be his heir but his own son.
As a matter of fact, it was Sarai who after seeing that she and her husband were aging, suggesting that Abram would give her children through her Egyptian handmaiden Hagar. There would have been nothing unusual about this given the culture of the time except that, that arrangement was way off the plan of God for Abraham.
In Genesis 15, God told Abram that his own son would be his heir, but in the very next chapter Abram, without any protest, Abram went along with his wife’s hair-brained scheme. Incidentally, after Ishmael was born, and Sarai saw that Abram loved him, she has a fit of jealous hatred and blameds Abram for coming up with such a wicked plan.
Abram (not yet Abraham) the man of faith, has acted unfaithfully but out of mercy, we see the heart of God the father act in love. First, he reminded Abram that Ishmael was not the son of promise and that he and Sarai would indeed have a son of their own.
True to God’s word, Isaac came and when Abraham was faithful enough in believing God’s promises to sacrifice his son Isaac because he believed Isaac would be raised from the dead if that was God’s will.
Abraham believed in God’s promise. He was a man of prayer (Gen.15), he was in line with God’s plan, He was a man of great persuassion (Gen.15) and he enjoyed the great and abundant blessings of the Lord, and in Gen. 21, the Bible shows him as a man with a gracious personality.
In James 2:23, God calls Abraham His friend
Onthis Father’s Day, our generation is looking for men like Abraham, men We need men who will change society by giving the next generation great examples to imitate.
For every Man reading thisa today, it is never too late to become the man God wants you to be. Make today that day you will chose to to be the man God wants you to beHappy Father’s Day!
